Installation

HVAC Installation Done Right

A new heating and cooling system is a significant investment. The installation determines how well it performs, how long it lasts, and whether it actually fits your home.

01

Proper Sizing

An oversized or undersized system doesn't work well. We size equipment based on your home's actual load, not a guess.

02

Equipment Selection

We help you select equipment that fits your budget, your home, and the climate in North Alabama.

03

Professional Installation

Manufacturer specifications, correct refrigerant charge, and proper airflow - every installation should be done right.

04

Startup & Testing

We test the system after installation to confirm it is operating correctly before we leave.

Heat Pumps

Heat Pump Repair & Replacement

Heat pumps provide both heating and cooling from a single system, which makes them efficient for the North Alabama climate where winters are cold but not extreme. Arab Sheet Metal repairs and replaces residential heat pump systems.

Heat pumps work harder than conventional systems because they run year-round. Common issues include refrigerant problems, reversing valve failures, defrost control problems, and compressor wear. If your heat pump is over 12 years old and needs a major repair, replacement may be the right call.

Don't Wait for It to Break

Most HVAC failures do not come without warning - a technician who knows what to look for can spot them before they leave you without heat or air in the middle of summer or winter.

A seasonal inspection covers the things that wear out first: capacitors, contactors, fan motors, drain lines, refrigerant levels, and system controls. It takes less time than an emergency repair call and costs significantly less than a system failure in peak season.

Schedule a Tune-Up →

What a Tune-Up Covers

  • Clean and inspect evaporator and condenser coils
  • Check refrigerant charge
  • Test capacitors and contactors
  • Inspect and lubricate fan motors
  • Clear drain line and pan
  • Check thermostat calibration
  • Test electrical connections
  • Inspect heat exchanger (gas systems)
  • Check system controls and safety switches
Decision Guide

Repair or Replace? Here's How We Think About It.

Repair Makes Sense When…

  • The equipment is under 10 years old
  • The repair cost is less than a third of replacement cost
  • The system has been maintained and is otherwise in good condition
  • The component that failed is not critical (capacitor, contactor, drain)
  • You recently replaced major components

Replacement May Be Smarter When…

  • The equipment is 12–15 years old or older
  • Repair cost exceeds half the price of a new system
  • The compressor has failed
  • You've had repeated repairs over the last few years
  • Energy bills have increased without explanation
  • The system uses R-22 refrigerant (phased out)

We give you an honest recommendation. If replacement makes more sense than repair, we'll tell you that. Call 256-586-4000 with your situation.

Refrigerants

R-410A & R-454B Systems

R-410A
R-454B
Current

Arab Sheet Metal services residential heating and cooling systems using R-410A and newer R-454B refrigerants. R-454B is the low global-warming refrigerant that newer equipment is transitioning to. The refrigerant your system uses depends on its design and manufacture date - they are not interchangeable. Never let anyone add a different refrigerant to your system.

We no longer service R-22 (Freon) systems. If your system uses R-22, it is time to talk about replacement. Call 256-586-4000.

Homeowner Tips

Keep Your System Running Between Service Visits

A few simple habits extend equipment life and reduce the chance of a breakdown.

🔲

Change Your Filter

A clogged air filter is the most common preventable cause of HVAC problems. Check yours monthly and replace it when it looks dirty - typically every 1 to 3 months depending on your home.

🌿

Keep the Outdoor Unit Clear

Your outdoor condenser needs airflow to work. Keep shrubs, grass, and debris at least two feet away from the unit on all sides. After storms, check for leaves and debris around the fins.

💧

Watch the Drain Line

Your AC removes humidity from the air and drains it out through a condensate line. If you notice water around your indoor unit or a musty smell, the drain line may be clogged. This is an easy fix if caught early.

🌡️

Don't Set Extreme Temperatures

Setting your thermostat to 65° on a 95° day won't cool your home faster. It just runs the system longer and harder. A reasonable set point (72–76° in summer) is easier on the equipment.

👂

Listen for Changes

Banging, squealing, grinding, or clicking that wasn't there before usually means something is starting to fail. Catching it early often means a less expensive repair.

📅

Schedule Annual Service

Once a year - cooling system in spring, heating system in fall - is enough to catch most developing problems before they become serious. Call Arab Sheet Metal to schedule.

FAQ

Common Questions

Answers to questions we hear often from homeowners in North Alabama.

Arab Sheet Metal primarily serves Arab, Alabama and the surrounding Marshall County communities including Guntersville, Grant, Boaz, and Albertville. Call us to ask whether we can help in your specific location.
Several things can cause an AC to run without cooling your home: a dirty air filter restricting airflow, a refrigerant problem, a frozen evaporator coil, a failed capacitor, or a failing compressor. The right answer depends on what we find when we look at your system. Call us at 256-586-4000 to schedule a service visit.
Most manufacturers and HVAC technicians recommend having your system inspected once a year — your cooling system in the spring before heavy use, and your heating system in the fall. Regular maintenance helps catch small problems before they become expensive repairs.
R-410A has been the standard residential refrigerant for many years. R-454B (sold under the Puron Advance name by some manufacturers) is a newer refrigerant with a lower global warming potential that newer equipment is being designed to use. The refrigerant your system uses depends on the equipment and when it was manufactured. Refrigerants are not interchangeable — never let anyone add a different refrigerant to your system.
The answer depends on the age of the equipment, the cost of the needed repair, and how well the system has been maintained. A good rule of thumb: if the equipment is 12 to 15 years old and the repair cost is more than half the cost of a new system, replacement often makes more sense. We can give you an honest assessment when we look at your situation.
We service most major residential heating and cooling brands. If you have a question about your specific equipment, call us at 256-586-4000.
